1 - Seek God First
The more we seek our Heavenly Father, the better we get to know Him and His will. Like in any strong, loving, and healthy relationship, we long to spend as much time as possible with that person. We get to know them so well that we begin to finish each other’s sentences and know exactly how they will react to a situation and what they will say. Imagine seeking God first in your life, so that you will know exactly how He will react to a situation, and what He will say to you.
Excuses we use: “I have no time right now God. First just let me just finish what I’m trying to do or figure on my own, then I’ll make time for you.”
Matthew 6:33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
2 - Love God with all your heart
When we seek God first and are reminded everyday how much He loves us, how much ‘amazing grace’ He extends to us, how much He wants to bless us, and how much he wants to be part of our lives, we can’t help but love Him. I mean, really love Him – love Him enough to surrender all to Him!
Excuses we use: “Sure, I love you God, but I really love (person, place, thing, etc.) better” OR “Sure, I love you God, but can we put parameters around our relationship?”
Luke 10:27 The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’
3 - Love your neighbour as yourself
When we understand that God loved each of us enough to send His Son Jesus Christ to save us regardless of whether we are good, bad, educated, uneducated, rich, poor, ugly, good looking, popular or not, etc., we begin to see others through the same lens as Jesus does – through the lens of love and amazing grace.
Excuses we use:“They were mean to me God, why should I love them” OR “I’m a much better person than they are, so clearly you love me more, and if you love me more, than why should I love them?”
Matthew 4:19 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”
4 - Share Christ with others
When you experience the love of God, through Jesus and recognize that He loves everyone the same way, how can you not want to share the Good News of Jesus with others?
Excuses we use: “I’m not sure I love them enough to want to see then in heaven” In which case, repeat 1-3! OR “What will they think of me, if they say no?” In which case, repeat 1-3!
Matthew 28:16-20 Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted! 18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
